2022 has been a great year for anime fans. Some of the biggest releases of the year being Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Spy X Family, and the second part of the final season of Attack on Titan. Next year, with the finale of Attack on Titan and the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, a lot of other great anime are lined up for release. 2023 is going to be great for anime fans worldwide, with the release of upcoming seasons of a lot of fan favorites and some brand-new speculated releases.
Attack on Titan Final season (part 3)
Since its release in early 2013, AOT has been a hit. Based on the manga with the same name, the series was written and created by Hajime Isayama. AOT is set in a realm where humans are forced to live in a walled city to protect themselves from man-eating Titans.
The anime is produced by Mappa and its final part is set to release sometime in 2023. While there is no confirmed release date, it is speculated that the anime will air sometime between April and May.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
Since its release in 2018, the jujutsu Kaisen manga has become one of the best-selling mangas of all time. The story, written by Gege Akutami, revolves around curses, but in reality is anything but cursed.
With the enormous success of the first season, fans can’t wait for the adaptation of volume two. It was revealed recently at a convention that season 2 will be divided into two halves, with the first half expected to air in the summer, and the latter in autumn.
One of the most popular manhwa (Korean web series) of all time, Solo Leveling is finally getting an anime adaptation! The comic, which is written by Chugong and illustrated by DUBU of the Redice Studio revolves around a young man, Sung Jinwoo, a hunter(a human with magical abilities) who enters dungeons to fight monsters. The story describes his journey from being the weakest hunter ever to gaining the ability to level up and discover the extent of his new powers.
An official release date has not been released yet, but the trailer for the anime was released at Anime Expo 2022. It is expected to premiere sometime in 2023.
Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Arc
Almost 2 years after the release of its first season, Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Arc is set to release in 2023. The story focuses on Takemichi Hanagaki, a middle schooler, who after hitting rock bottom, gains the ability to time travel. After learning that his high school girlfriend Hinata Tachibana, dies at the hands of a gang, he takes it upon himself to change the events of the past to save Hinata.
During a live stream, it was revealed that the starting episodes of the season will be screened in advance. The upcoming season will also introduce 2 new characters: Taiju Shiba, and his sister, Yuzuha Shiba. The show is set to release in January 2023.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4
Bungo Stray Dogs is mainly a supernatural show that follows a group of young detectives who possess superpowers. The show’s main protagonist is Atsushi Nakajima, who after being on the verge of death, is saved by a man named Osamu Dazai. He later learns that Dazai is trying to solve a case of a mystical white tiger, the same one that attacked the orphanage Atsushi used to live in. Atsushi then joins the Armed Detective Agency and along with other detectives that have supernatural powers, helps solve crimes.
It has been years since the last release of Bungo Stray Dogs season 3, so if you’re wondering if Season 4 is set to release anytime soon, you are in the right place. The official account of the anime announced on Twitter that the anime’s season 4 is expected to release in January of 2023.
Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre
If you enjoy anything spooky, this one’s for you. Junji Ito is a renowned horror manga artist known for his creepy and frightening stories. The anime Japanese Tales of the Macabre, a collection of his stories is set to be adapted into an anime by Netflix. The new stories included in the adaptation of the anime include “Ice Cream Bus” (“Ice Cream Truck”), “Bohyō no Machi” (“Tombtown”), “Zōsho Genei” ( “Library of Illusions”), and “Kubi no Nai Chōkoku” (“Headless Statue”).
If you are a lover of the horror genre, this anime is a must-add to your to-watch list. Netflix is set to release the anime in January 2023.
